Welcome to the new semester, I hope you've had a wonderful summer.
As the new school year begins, I want to emphasize our core values at the University. We are committed to creating a welcoming and respectful campus climate that exemplifies inclusive excellence. This means that we do not tolerate hatred or bigotry. Rather, we uphold the dignity of all members of our campus community. We all share responsibility for equity and diversity—it’s everybody’s everyday work.
As you think about the important work you want to accomplish, I hope you will consider attending the Student Leadership Summit on September 22 at Coffman Memorial Union. All students are invited to attend—it’s a great way to interact with other students interested in leadership and involvement. Registration opens September 4; sign up to receive updates.
Before then, let’s gather and celebrate the beginning of the academic year. On Tuesday, September 4, along with other University leaders, I’ll be on the East Bank side of Washington Avenue Bridge to welcome you back to campus. Please join us from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. We’ll have snacks and plenty of coffee.
Finally, as I enter my last year as president of this great University, I want to recognize that the best part of my time here has been spending time with students like you. Thank you for that.
Please visit my website to learn how you can sign up for my office hours. I’d love to meet you. And follow me—@PrezKaler—on Twitter.
Have a safe and productive 2018-19 academic year. I’ll see you around campus!
